Thomas R. James, also known as “Jay,” is an author, justice advocate, and a survivor of injustice. He is the founder of J Innocent Apparel LLC, a brand and movement rooted in truth, resilience, and purpose. He is also the author of “If The Walls Could Talk: Would You Listen?”—a powerful and unwavering voice for justice.

 

Jay’s mission is driven by a deep belief: injustice to anyone anywhere is an injustice to everyone everywhere. His work stands as a testament to that conviction.

His journey began with a life-altering injustice. In 1990, he was charged with First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Armed Burglary, and Aggravated Assault. In 1991, he was wrongfully convicted of all charges.

 

Despite the weight of the deck that was stacked against him, Jay never stopped fighting for the truth.

Through relentless determination, faith, and an unbreakable commitment to proving his innocence, justice was finally served. On April 27, 2022, after 32 years, he was fully exonerated. This life-changing outcome was made possible through his persistence, along with the investigative work of journalist Tristram Korten, attorney Natalie G. Figgers, and some very dedicated family members.

 

Jay’s story gained national attention, with GQ Magazine publishing the powerful account that exposed the injustice he was enduring. Today, Thomas R. James uses his voice, his brand, and his platform to inspire others, advocate for those still unheard, and stand boldly in truth, purpose, and freedom.  His work stands as a testament to that conviction.
